Is Josh Holleran ORDIT Registered in Swindon?
No. I'm not currently an ORDIT-registered driving instructor trainer in Swindon.
I'm a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor and achieved Grade A on my most recent ADI Standards Check. This means I meet the Grade A requirement to apply to become an ORDIT trainer. However, at the time of writing, the DVSA is not accepting ORDIT applications.
So while I meet the published Grade A eligibility requirement and would like to join ORDIT, I cannot currently complete the application and assessment process.
I intend to apply when the register reopens.
What is ORDIT?
ORDIT is the Official Register of Driving Instructor Training, run by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
It is a voluntary register for ADIs who provide training to people becoming driving instructors and existing ADIs looking to develop their skills.
Being ORDIT registered demonstrates that a trainer has successfully completed the DVSA's assessment process and met its standard for providing instructor training.

Why am I not ORDIT registered?
The reason is simple: the DVSA is not currently accepting applications.
The current GOV.UK guidance states that applications are not being accepted and that the page will be updated when people can apply again.
This also affects existing ORDIT trainers who need to renew. DVSA's separate renewal guidance confirms that it is not currently accepting ORDIT applications and that trainers waiting to renew will not be removed from the register while they wait.

Am I eligible to apply for ORDIT?
I meet the published Grade A requirement to apply.
The DVSA requires a new ORDIT applicant to:
- be an Approved Driving Instructor
- have achieved Grade A at their latest ADI Standards Check
- satisfy the DVSA's suitability checks
- successfully complete the ORDIT assessment process
I am an ADI and achieved Grade A at my most recent Standards Check.
That does not make me ORDIT registered. There are further checks and an assessment process that I would need to successfully complete before I could legitimately describe myself as an ORDIT trainer.
At the moment, the closure of applications means I cannot begin that process.
When applications reopen, I intend to apply.
Do you have to be ORDIT registered to train driving instructors?
No.
The DVSA states that an ADI does not need an additional qualification to train driving instructors. ORDIT is currently a voluntary register.
Personally, I think there should be greater regulation around instructor training.
People training PDIs have a significant influence on the instructors who eventually teach learners on our roads. I think there is value in having recognised standards, accountability and continued professional development for the people responsible for developing future instructors.
At the time of writing, however, there is no requirement for an instructor trainer to be ORDIT registered.
That makes it particularly important for someone choosing an instructor trainer to look beyond titles and consider their experience, approach to training, professional development and willingness to reflect on and continually improve their own practice.
How do I continue developing as an instructor trainer?
Achieving Grade A on a Standards Check isn't the end of my development.
I continually look for ways to develop my own practice through coaching, reflection and ongoing professional development. I also build and develop courses, resources and support for both PDIs and qualified ADIs.
For me, instructor training should go beyond preparing someone to pass ADI Part 3.
It involves understanding how people learn, adapting training to the individual, developing effective coaching and teaching skills, reflecting on performance and being prepared to challenge and develop our own practice.
I also regularly work with Dr Julia Malkin MBE to continue developing my understanding of special educational needs and neurodiversity. That work helps me consider how different people learn and how that knowledge can support both the instructors I work with and my own learners.
Professional development shouldn't stop because you've passed a test or achieved a particular grade. I want my own training practice to continue evolving alongside the people I'm helping to develop.
So, am I ORDIT registered?
No.
