How Many Driving Lessons Do I Need Before My Test?

DVSA's own average is 45 hours of professional lessons plus 22 hours of private practice, based on data from learners reaching test standard. There's no legal minimum, that figure is a guide, not a rule.

Why the real answer is "it depends"

That average genuinely sits in the middle of a wide range. Some learners are ready with as little as 10 hours plus private practice and go on to drive independently. Others need 100+ hours. Both are completely normal, the number itself isn't the measure of anything.

What we're actually working towards

The point of lessons with us isn't hitting a minimum standard to scrape a pass, it's making sure you're safe, confident, and genuinely independent behind the wheel. Our focus is on safe driving after your test, not just getting you through it. Those two things don't always take the same amount of time to build.

Our approach

In our experience, the number of hours a learner needs is genuinely unique to them, and our teaching reflects that rather than working to a fixed course length. We work at your pace, with no expectations and no judgement either way.
